Salone del Gusto and Terra Madre 2012

Indigenous Dinner and AGM

A dinner themed on indigenous foods will follow the Slow Food Hobart Annual General Meeting on Sunday 22 July.

Expect to enjoy some intriguing flavours and ingredients like; grey saltbush, boronia, pepper berry, sea celery and dune spinach.  The meal will be prepared by Nick Cummins of Urban Bounty with produce and edible table decorations from Paulette Whitney of Provenance Growers in consultation with the guest speakers, Buz Green, Kris Schaffer and Trish Hodge.

Our first speaker, Buz Green, is the 2011 recipient of the Australian horticulture industry’s most prestigious accolade, the Graham Gregory Award.  Buz, is the co -founder and Executive Chairman of agricultural consultancy business, Serve-A.  Buz is also a Director of the Rotary Club of Devonport North and he along with Bruce French (Speaker AGM 2009) have been the driving force in the club’s Learn Grow project, which has become an international campaign to educate indigenous communities to positively tackle malnutrition.

Kris Schaffer and Trish Hodge will provide the link to Tasmania’s edible plants and their importance to indigenous Tasmanians. Kris Schaffer is a native plant expert, horticulturalist, garden designer and talented photographer and works with schools and community groups to develop indigenous gardens.  Trish Hodge is a Tasmanian aboriginal descended from Manalargenna, a chief of the North East Nation.  Trish is currently writing a book about Tasmanian bush tucker and is a dedicated aboriginal educator and eco guide.
